INTRODUCTION

Late Tahir Rehmatoola, the Founder President of A.P.H.A, Who was himself, a victim of muscular dystrophy, with his handful companions laid the foundation of this Association in 1975 with a firm determination to work for the welfare and rehabilitation of the disabled on the basis of self-help, mutual understanding and compassion.

APHA established in 1975 and registered on 6th December 1976 as a voluntary social welfare organization is the largest organization in Pakistan engaged in the welfare and rehabilitation of the persons with disabilities (PWDs) especially physically handicapped. The affairs of the association are managed by an Executive and Managing Committee of 17 persons elected from among the disabled members every two year. It is a unique association being run and managed by handicapped themselves.

APHA office is housed in "APHA CENTRE" built Gulistan e Jauhar with the help and co-operation of philanthropists and well wishers. APHA is endeavoring to eliminate the problems and difficulties faced .by PWDs in society on the basis of mutual understanding, respect and co-operation

AIMS & OBJECS

For the promotion and success of the mission APHA has the following aims and objects:

1. To demonstrate and improve the working qualities of the disabled.
2. To emphasize and highlight their abilities and working conditions and capacities not their disabilities.
3. To promote working opportunities for them
4. To overcome employment discrimination against them
5. To plan and promote international barrier free design e.g. Ramps and Railings in architecture in all future construction of public buildings for the easy access of the handicapped persons.
